Investigators will update public Jan. 11 about Careaga murder investigation

PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office will update the media Thursday about the investigation into the Careaga family murders of Jan. 27, 2017.

Investigators will provide an extended recording of the 911 call made by 16-year-old Hunter Schaap from the family residence on Tenino Drive West in the Lake Tehuyeh area of Central Kitsap.

They will verify the identity of the person of interest in video footage of Jan. 15, 2017, obtained from the Silverdale Target store.

Investigators will also show surveillance video footage depicting a truck driven by John Careaga, 43, and another vehicle parked at the Camp Union Grocery Store from Jan. 27, 2017.

The press conference will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Kitsap County Public Works building, third floor conference room, 507 Austin Ave., Port Orchard.
