A 23-year-old Bremerton man was arrested on multiple charges around 1 a.m. May 23 following an incident along State Route 16 near Gig Harbor, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The 23-year-old female victim was stopped for a traffic violation on State Route 160 at Bethel where she reported being assaulted as she drove along State Route 16 between Gig Harbor and Port Orchard. She and a male passenger in the vehicle said the male and female passengers in the backseat got into a heated argument, according to WSP. The driver asked them to calm down. The Bremerton man became upset and reached into the front seat, grabbed the steering wheel and turned the vehicle left and into a guardrail along the Burnham Drive exit.
The vehicle sustained significant damage, according to WSP.
After the vehicle came to a stop, the man and woman in the backseat exited and the man slammed the driver’s door closed on the driver’s leg. He then began repeatedly slamming his fists into the windshield, destroying it, before he and his girlfriend left on foot.
The pair was found walking along Burnham Drive near Home Depot in Gig Harbor.
The Bremerton man was booked into Pierce County Jail for fourth-degree assault, first-degree malicious mischief and reckless endangerment with bail set at $25,000.
