Foundation looking ahead to new buidling

The Kingston Community Center Foundation continues to plan and organize for new center in Kingston's Village Green.

The Kingston Community Center Foundation has as its charter overseeing the building of a successor to the existing community center.

Along with the rest of Kingston, the foundation saw doors begin to open when Kitsap County negotiated purchase of the property currently used for Navy housing. Now the foundation’s board of directors is taking the first steps toward bringing about a new building. Members of the board, together with supporters including representatives of the library, Kingston Stakeholders, North Kitsap Boys & Girls Club and others, have begun to meet with architects to discuss the desired ‘look and feel’ of a new community center.

Using as a basis results of a survey conducted in 2002 by the Parks, Trails, and Open Space subcommittee of the Kingston Citizens Advisory Council, as well as input from supporters, the group has drawn up basic design elements of the new center. Its objective is to enable an architect to sketch concept drawings that would capture the community’s vision for a new center. Such drawings could be the very first step toward securing funding and other material support for a replacement community center.

The foundation has changed its meeting day and now meets regularly on the third Tuesday of the month, either at American Marine Bank or at the Kingston Community Center. Call Bobbie Moore at (360) 297-2845 for more information.
