There’ll be a chocolate celebration in Port Orchard, after all.
To help fill the void created by the cancellation of the Port Orchard Chocolate Festival, Carter’s Chocolates, a chocolate and pastries shop in Port Orchard’s Public Market, will host a day of chocolate seminars on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Matt Carter, the shop’s owner, decided to step up and offer a day of seminars that showcase his chocolate and candy-making expertise. The seminars will end with a chocolate and wine-tastingevent for those who want to savor great chocolate, Carter said.
The chocolate seminars are free, but the Chocolate 101 (with chocolate and wine-tasting) session is $10 per person. Space is limited and reservations are required for all three events by emailing carterschocolates@yahoo.com.
Here’s a listing of seminars to be hosted by the chocolatier:
Fun With Sugar: 11 a.m.
Carter will demonstrate cooking with sugar to make caramel, caramel sauce and some “groovy” caramel decorations for holiday treats.
Fun With Chocolate: 12 p.m.
The chocolatier will show how to temper chocolate and turn it into fun decorations and molded treats. He’ll also demonstrate how to make truffles.
Chocolate 101/Chocolate & Wine Tasting: 1:30 p.m.
The subject of “everything chocolate” and its history, as well as a tasting of a few select single-origin chocolates, will be paired with a couple of area port wines.
The tasting will take place within the Central Dock Restaurant for those 21 and over. Space is limited and reservations are required.
Central Dock Restaurant, and Sue’s Lavendar and Fresh Juice Bar, both located in the Port Orchard Public Market, also will have chocolate specials on their menus.
Carter has won the Best Dessert category in the Best of SK competition for four consecutive years. His shop makes handmade chocolates by using single-origin, organically grown chocolate. The shop also sells truffles, caramels, turtles, bark, peanut butter cups and more. It also makes and sells its own ice cream.
