Summer isn’t over yet, so get your engines revving with the Early Irons NW Car Show on Sept. 6.

2015 marks the 16th year of car shows in Port Gamble, hosted by the Early Irons NW Car Club. All cars and motorcycles are welcome at this popular, yearly Port Gamble event. Gates open at 7 a.m., with a $20 registration fee for vehicle entries. The show runs 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Show admission is free. Usually, more than 150 classic cars park in the field next to Mike’s Four Star BBQ. Attendees can enjoy ice cream, oldies music, a 50/50 raffle, and food vendors.

The event organizers are pleased to announce that all proceeds from the car show will benefit the West Sound Technical Skills Center in Bremerton. Come out and cast your vote and see who will win the “People’s Choice” trophy.

Port Gamble is also host to Cruise Port Gamble, which takes place from 4 p.m. to dusk every Thursday through the end of September. Cruise Port Gamble welcomes all cars, motorcycles and car enthusiasts to stop by and show off their cars and enjoy Port Gamble.

Port Gamble Bay cleanup: Project update

Visiting www.port gamblebaycleanup.com for current and archived construction updates, or follow the project Facebook page (search Port Gamble Bay Cleanup) to stay informed about the project, which is set to commence in September.

Work will take place over two construction seasons throughout much of the bay, and will conclude in January 2017. Pope Resources and OPG Properties will remove approximately 70,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment and wood waste, and approximately 6,000 creosoted pilings and overwater structures. Wood waste located close to shore will be dredged, and all areas contaminated by wood waste will be capped with clean material to enhance environmental recovery.

The cleanup process aims to eliminate threats to human health and the environment while minimizing impacts of cleanup.
