Hansen named vice chairman of House Judiciary

OLYMPIA — Rep. Drew Hansen, D-Bainbridge, will help address critical issues of criminal and civil law as vice chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

“I’m honored by this appointment, and I’m looking forward to working to make our legal system function smoothly and efficiently,” Hansen said Tuesday in a press release.

The Judiciary Committee considers a wide variety of legal issues, including civil commitments, commercial law, consumer protection, eminent domain, firearms regulation, guardianships, landlord-tenant law, probate, and torts. It also looks into such family law issues as adoption, child support, divorce, and marriage, and it reviews the overall administration of the courts.

Hansen is a partner in the Susman Godfrey law firm in Seattle. He was appointed to the House in late 2011 to fill a vacancy and elected last month to a full two-year term.

Hansen also was named to the Finance and Higher Education committees in the House, as the majority Democratic Caucus announced its committee assignments for all its members for the 2013 Legislature, which begins Jan. 14.
