NKHS musicians headed to state

Several North Kitsap High School musicians have been selected to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest April 24-25 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

The musicians include:

Megan Webster on flute; Alex Vidal on clarinets; Alex Thompson on tenor saxophone; Valarie Rock on trumpet; Simone Maule on french horn; Rex Olson on tuba; Amy VanCleave on timpani; Shannon Nakaya and Alanna Vidal in the small woodwind ensemble; the flute quintet of Megan Webster, Erica Dowden, Ali Marks, Alanna Vidal and Shannon Nakaya in the large woodwind ensemble; Tim Shoop and Caleb Stigile in the small brass ensemble; and the large percussion ensemble, Lazer Katz, featuring Nate May, Jacob Gilman, Shawna Williams, Bryson Breakey and Joe Adkins.

KHS sending musician to state

Jaime Schultz of Kingston High School will represent the Olympic Region in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest April 24-25 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. Schultz too first place in the alto/soprano saxophone division at the regional competition Feb. 28 in Silverdale to earn a spot at the state contest.

KMS drill team rummage sale

Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Kingston Middle School drill team parade squad will hold a rummage sale in the KMS commons. The sale is open to the public, and all proceeds will go toward funding a trip to Disneyland for the girls.

Montessori mornings and open house

Children’s Garden Montessori School of Poulsbo offers a free introduction to Montessori classroom activities for preschoolers and their parents March 27 from 9:30-11 a.m. Time will be spent both inside and outside exploring the natural wonders of the garden along with the Montessori classroom resources to learn more about the parts of flowers, how seeds grow, and leaf shapes. Children may create bouquets or leaf collections to take home. Parents and children ages 2 and a half to 4 are welcome.

The school will also host an open house Thursday, March 26, from 6-7 p.m. Families will have the chance to meet teachers and explore the school.Both activities are free. Space is limited. Call (360) 779-1225 to sign up.

Library to discontinue Live Homework Help

As of April 1, Kitsap Regional Library will discontinue Live Homework Help, the online service accessed through www.krl.org. Due to budget reductions and difficult economic times, KRL will not renew the program, Tutor.com. There are still a number of other resources on the KRL Web site for students, such as Opposing Viewpoints, CultureGrams and the Learning Express Library.

Hansville Preschool auction

Hansville Preschool will host a silent auction March 28 from 3-6 p.m. at the Greater Hansville Community Center. Items up for bid include Mariner’s tickets, full body massages and gift certificates to various restaurants and stores.

Activities include face painting from 3-4 p.m. and salsa dance lessons from 4-4:45 p.m. Fresh baked goodies and refreshments will also be available.
