Army Reserve Private First Class Samuel Bailey of Silverdale has graduated from Advanced Individual Training as an Army Combat Medic.
His training was at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. During 20 weeks of training, soldiers attend many courses that teach them the various medical tasks they require in their military career.
They must also maintain an EMT and CPR certification. He also received the Distinguished with Iron Medic Award given to the soldier that achieves the highest score in a physical fitness test in his entire class. He scored above the standard with a score of 364 out of 300.
He is the son of Lisa Plum of Silverdale and Wesley and Pam Bailey of Bremerton.
Bailey now returns to Army ROTC at Washington State University where he is majoring in finance with a minor in economics.He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 2012.
He also is an Eagle Scout from Silverdale Lutheran Troop 1541.
Navy Seaman Casey M. Guzman, son of Castor V. Guzman of Silverdale, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Guzman completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.
An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”.
This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
“Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.
Its distinctly Navy flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Guzman is a 2013 graduate of Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale.
