POULSBO – High winds downed trees and power lines and caused outages that hampered ferry arrivals and slowed traffic to a crawl on signal-less streets, Nov. 24.
The National Weather Service expects northeast winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts of up to 45-55 mph, to continue through 6 a.m. Nov. 25 in Kitsap.
Winds will be strongest through the evening, the National Weather Service reported, with winds strong enough to break tree branches and cause power outages.
The Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management activated the county’s Severe Weather Shelter Plan, because of predicted below-freezing overnight temperatures. The county’s severe-weather shelters will are open until 7 a.m. Nov. 25.
The shelters are located at The Salvation Army, 832 6th St., Bremerton; and Kingston Community Center, 1212 NE Highway 104, Kingston. The severe weather shelters serve all residents who require safe overnight refuge where none is available. Call 211 or 360-307-5871.
The following roads are closed, according to the Department of Emergency Management.
Nov. 24
6:43 p.m.: Garfield Road is closed between McGregor Road and California Avenue. Trees have fallen, bringing down power lines with them. Puget Sound Energy is responding. Once they clear the lines, the county can remove the trees and reopen the lines.
4:25 p.m.: County road crews are responding to a report of fallen trees blocking Brownsville Highway between Old Military Road and NE O’Hara Hills Drive. No wires are involved. The road will reopen when the trees are removed.
4 p.m.: Power is reportedly out on the Port Gamble S’Klallam Reservation.
3:44 p.m.: Trees are down on State Route 104 in both directions at milepost 17 near the Port Gamble town limits. The roadway is fully blocked. Expect delays.
3:44 p.m.: Water service is reportedly out on half of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Reservation.
3:39 p.m.: Spring Creek Road, Port Orchard, is closed between Van Dekar Road SE and State Road Shop due to fallen power lines entangled in trees.
3:28 p.m.: Kitsap County Courthouse and Administration Building offices are closed due to power failure.
3:12 p.m.: Brockton Avenue NE, Suquamish, is closed between NE Bell Street and Middle Street due to fallen power lines entangled in trees.
Miller Bay Road NE, Poulsbo, is closed between NE Sid Price Road and NE Wood Bay Lane due to fallen power lines.
NE Laurel Grove, Poulsbo, is closed between NE Bell Street and NE Holman Avenue due to a tree falling with power lines entangled.
NE Lincoln Road, Poulsbo, is closed between Widme Road NE and Stottlemeyer Road NE due to a fallen tree.
Old Military Road NE, Poulsbo, is closed between Brownsville Highway NE and Sunday Valley Lane NE due to a tree falling with power lines entangled.
Olympic View Road NW, Silverdale, is closed between NW Jupiter Trail and Olympic View Loop Road NW due to a tree falling with power lines entangled.
Phillips Road SE, Port Orchard, is closed between SE Emelia Lane and SE Baker Road due to a tree falling with power lines entangled. Puget Sound Energy is responding. Once the wires are cleared the tree will be removed and the road reopened.
