Popular prizes include axolotls, Highland cows, bubble tea-themed plushies, and capybaras.

Winner Every Time Clawcade, a new Tokyo-style claw arcade in Silverdale, is bringing a different kind of family entertainment experience to Kitsap County — one focused on prizes, accessibility and a model designed to give younger players a fair shot.

Owner Peter Quinn opened the arcade after spending 35 years working in toy importing and prize merchandise for amusement parks, carnivals and arcades. He said the inspiration came from his long career in the product side of the industry.

“I love the product, and I love the theming of the product, and the quality,” he said. “The Tokyo-style arcade is different than the American arcade because it is really all about vending prizes.”

Quinn said the concept has surged in cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas over the last several years. Friends in the industry encouraged him to bring the model to the Pacific Northwest.

“They were like, ‘Yeah, you should do it. You’re not an operator, but you can be, and you know the product,”’ he said, adding that the support from colleagues helped him take the leap into operating his own business for the first time.

Quinn said many players associate claw machines with frustration, but the “winner every time” approach changes that.

“There’s really no need for that,” he said. “I can provide entertainment where you play the cranes and win plenty of product. You have time with your family, and you still end up with a whole bunch of merchandise.”

He said the model is especially beneficial for younger children.

“It gives the younger kids an opportunity to play who might not have the manual dexterity or even be able to see up into the machines,” he said. “You can bring your three-year-old here, let them loose, and you know they’re going to come back with stuff.”

The arcade includes a lounge area that allows parents and grandparents to relax while kids play.

Every machine in the arcade carries a different prize, something Quinn said sets his business apart.

“If you go to a lot of other places for crane machines, they don’t have as many cranes. I have no duplications in the whole arcade,” he said. “Every machine has its own prize, and it’s unique.”

He said he aims to rotate merchandise regularly, keeping the arcade fresh for returning customers.

“The concept is, every six weeks I want every crane to have something new in it,” he said. “The public taste changes quickly, so we’re going to have to change quickly with it…if you come back six months from now and it’s the same, you’re going to get bored. I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Popular items currently include axolotls, Highland cows, bubble tea-themed plushies and capybaras. Quinn said he hopes the arcade becomes a reliable indoor option for families, especially during the rainy season.

“I hope it’s a place to come and hang out with your family and get out of the house on a rainy day,” he said.

Winner Every Time Clawcade also offers birthday parties, corporate events and fundraising opportunities.

“I’m not charging for the parties,” Quinn said. “All the money you spend, you’re getting back in playing cards.”

Washington’s regulations for claw machines are strict, something he said ultimately benefits players.

“You can’t have your machines change the rate of vending based on how much money they’ve taken. Everyone should have the same shot,” he said.

The business, located at 10600 Silverdale Way NW, is holding a grand opening Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
