Poulsbo Fire Department’s Station 76 received its first emergency response tones from Kitsap 911 at 3:08 p.m. Nov. 22, formally opening the station.
Located at 19145 Viking Avenue NW, it is the PFD’s fifth fire station, of which four are now staffed around the clock with emergency responders, per a news release. During the opening ceremony, chief Jim Gillard noted that “the station is a key element in the department’s plan to improve emergency response times throughout the fire district and keep pace with the rapidly growing community.”
Station 76 will significantly reduce initial response times to the west side of the city of Poulsbo and the Scandia/Keyport area. In addition, the new station will reduce the utilization of response units from other stations, improving reliability and emergency response times across the entire fire district, which extends from Keyport to Port Gamble, the release says.
Designed by Carletti Architects and built by TRICO Companies, Station 76 provides space for three emergency response vehicles and houses up to four on-duty firefighters. Gillard expressed his “appreciation for the community’s support of the department, which made this station possible. Continuing to earn the community’s trust through the efficient use of public resources was critical to every budgeting decision made during this project.”
The department will host a public open house Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the station with community members. Due to limited on-site parking, the department will not be hosting children’s activities, but residents are invited to stop by, explore the station, and meet the crews.
