VFW Post 2669, its auxiliary, the American Legion, South Kitsap NJROTC and sea cadets from South Kitsap ROTC collaborated to host a solemn Memorial Day ceremony May 26 at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.
Community members gathered to hear Matt Schillingberg share the story of the flag used in the service, which is more than 100 years old.
The flag, featuring only 48 stars, was flown during World War I.
