Project engineer Tom Castor stands in front of the construction zone at the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal where crews will begin setting four bridge spans totaling 338 feet in length onto giant concrete and steel footings. The work will shut down drive-on service for vehicles Sept. 7-13. Commuters who need to use their cars must use the Bremerton or Kingston ferry terminals instead.

A short but quick reminder: The Bainbridge Island ferry terminal will be open to passengers only Sept. 7 through 3 a.m. Sept. 13.

Washington State Ferries also will only be using one of its vessels from the BI-Seattle route. The other is in Kingston to help with expected additional usage there. Other options are walk-on ferries from Bremerton and Kingston to Seattle and the WSF boat between Bremerton and Seattle.

The closure is needed as crews lift new pedestrian walkway structures into place on Bainbridge Island. Four large bridge spans are being stored in the regular vehicle holding area on Bainbridge Island.
