As fast as South Kitsap has run, passed and shot in an impressive turnaround season thus far, the South Puget Sound League’s top teams are still running a tad faster.

Such was the case in the Wolves Oct. 1 match against the Sumner Spartans, who went from nearly being held scoreless in the first half to creating an explosion of momentum and ball control in the last 40 minutes to take the match 4-0 in Port Orchard.

The Spartans broke through after about 20 minutes after SK was unable to clear the ball a safe distance from its goal. Ensuing pushes downfield, including a dead-on shot from junior Ava White, found a wall of Sumner defenders waiting. A multi-goal half for Sumner junior Mae Cocke put the contest out of reach.

Coach Randi Gunyan’s team will face a full slate of SPSL foes through the remainder of the month, including away contests vs. Curtis and Puyallup. SK’s final three home matches will be against Graham-Kapowsin Oct. 10, Yelm Oct. 17 and Olympia Oct. 29.
