SOUTH KITSAP — A truck towing a stolen trailer carrying an excavator overturned Dec. 4 in the eastbound lanes of State Route 16 near Highway 160, shutting down rush-hour traffic.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger reported on his Twitter account that as a result of the mid-afternoon accident, first responders were called to mop up spilled fuel on the roadway.

Just after the truck and its load overturned to block the lanes, the driver was seen leaving the scene in a red sedan near the Sedgwick Road exit.

Winger reported at about 5:45 p.m. that both eastbound lanes had reopened to traffic.

Anyone witnessing the accident is asked to call the Washington State Patrol at 360-473-0300.
