Arson suspect arrested; given $100,000 bail

BREMERTON — A 25-year-old Bremerton man was arrested for first degree arson by Bremerton Police.

Officers and the Bremerton Fire Department were called to an address on the 900 block of McKenzie Avenue at 8:56 p.m. Jan. 30 after a report of smoke coming from hours was made.

There was extensive fire and smoke damage to the house, but no injuries.

Officers located the resident of the house nearby as well as others, who had been at a nearby Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The resident told officers he had returned to the house after being called by people from the meeting.

The house is rented out by a local church.

Following an extensive investigation, Bremerton Police detectives arrested the resident for the arson. A confession was obtained and he has been jailed on probable cause first degree arson, with bail set at $100,000.
