As 2015 ends, I am reflecting on the various journeys I have experienced this year.
The most amazing one of all was a sojourn to Bali, which never would have happened if I had not supported the Village Green by signing up for this silent auction adventure offered at Pie in the Park. Opportunities to grow and learn sometimes catch us by surprise.
I invite you to check out something new from the library. Our December programs include:
Kingston Book Group: 10-11 a.m. Dec. 2. Discussion will be on “The Receptionist,” a memoir by Janet Groth.
Family Storytime: 10:30-11 a.m. Dec. 7, 14 and 21, Join us for early literacy learning fun. Lots of full body movement, songs, stories, and rhymes designed to build letter knowledge, vocabulary, and narrative skills.
Kingston Writers Group: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 8. A supportive atmosphere to encourage writing. We want to read what you want to write: poetry, nonfiction, fiction, or memoir. Beginners welcome.
Classics Book Group: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 21. Discussion will be on the children’s classic, “The Secret Garden,” by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Hour of Code: 4-5 p.m. Dec. 10. Young people will learn basic coding principles and take turns “programming” one another to navigate through simple, fun tasks.
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. This STEM program is organized as part of Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 7-13 and is geared toward elementary school students.
Little Boston branch events
Family Storytime: 10:30-11 a.m. Dec. 1, 8, and 15. Early literacy fun with books, songs, stories, and rhymes designed to build letter knowledge, vocabulary, and narrative skills. Note: Storytime will resume Jan. 5.
Little Boston Book Group: noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 2. Topic: “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline.
Crafternoon: 2:30-3:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Bring your craft projects and discover our extensive craft book collection. All skill levels are welcome.
Stained Glass Coloring: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Join us for an afternoon of coloring. We’ll provide stained-glass coloring pages and markers.
Gingerbread House Workshop: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Dec. 16. Become an architect and engineer to design and build a gingerbread house out of graham crackers. All materials are provided. All ages are welcome. Register by calling the Little Boston branch, 360-297-2670.
