KINGSTON — Two people were transported — one, by Airlift Northwest helicopter — to hospitals after an apparent high-speed, rear-end crash on SR 104 near its intersection with Highland Road near here May 31. Travel along the two-lane road was restricted to just one lane while crews worked.
North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Poulsbo Fire Department crews were called to the incident at 1:44 p.m. after multiple bystanders called 911 to report it. The first arriving emergency personnel found a sedan with severe rear-end damage and a pick-up with significant damage to its front end. The two occupants of the sedan were entrapped by the force of the collision; firefighters pried open the driver’s side door to reach both occupants. The driver was flown by helicopter to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries; the passenger went by aid unit to Bremerton’s Harrison Medical Center. The driver of the truck refused medical treatment or transport.
The Washington State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
