Help resolve issues for workers with disabilities

OLYMPIA —Washington residents with disabilities, as well as their family members and advocates, may apply to serve on the Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment.

The committee advises the governor, Legislature, state agencies, public and private organizations and the general public on disability issues. Members recommend ways to address those issues, emphasizing opportunities to increase independence and jobs for those with disabilities.

Members must have a disability or have experience working with people who have a variety of physical, mental or sensory disabilities. The governor also will consider geography, occupation, gender, age, socioeconomic status, minority status and diversity of viewpoints when making his appointments.

Committee members are required to attend three committee meetings per year and serve on one or two subcommittees. Members can attend meetings in person, by Internet and by conference call.

The application deadline is Aug. 30 for one- to three-year terms beginning in January 2014. Gov. Jay Inslee will select and appoint new members.Contact Debbie Himes, (360) 725-9511.
