KINGSTON — A $2,500 grant by Cuppa Bella Bagelry & Espresso Cafe will help North Kitsap Fishline provide weekend meals to 200 children in North Kitsap.
Marcus Croman of Cuppa Bella announced the grant earlier this week. The money will be used to help Fishline’s Food for Thought program.
“This program directly targets the most vulnerable who are in need within our community: children,” Croman said.
“Although this grant will only fund two weekends of the 39-week program, because of it, 200 children in our local community will now not go hungry on these weekends,” he said. “How do you begin to measure or even compare how important that impact is to them?”
In addition to the grant awarded by Cuppa Bella, North Kitsap Fishline will be seeking additional grants to fund its Food for Thought program from various local and national sources as well as its “Kids for Kids” program.
In “Kids for Kids,” local families can “adopt” area children by assisting with the purchase of their weekend food packs.
The packs that will be provided through the Food for Thought program will contain three balanced meals for Saturday and Sunday, plus snacks. All of the meals are easy for children to prepare on their own if necessary. Each pack costs Fishline $6 per week to produce.
