KINGSTON — Pie in the Park just keeps getting bigger.

Enjoying the new pavilion recently built by Rotary Club of Kingston-North Kitsap, folks flocked from all over to eat pie, watch others eat pie and bid on some homemade, prized pies at Village Green Park.

The fourth-annual fundraiser was held Aug. 23. Rotary member Bobbie Moore said they’ve raised $13,128 as of Monday, with a few checks still to come in — the largest amount raised so far.

This was the first year the event hosted a pie-eating contest for the kids. Katelyn Meikle, 7, won the first pie-eating contest (ages 0-7), followed by Alex Friend, 13, who won the 8-13 division.

Kingston Rotary Club President Clint Boxman auctioned more than 80 pies at the event. The money goes toward Village Green Foundation projects.

Volunteer Jen Kirkpatrick said this was the largest turnout for the pie auction yet.

“I think we’re coming together as a community more,” she said.
