Inspections to close Bremerton’s Manette Bridge next week
Published 3:09 pm Friday, October 30, 2009
Annual inspections will close the Manette Bridge in Bremerton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday Nov. 2-5.
Drivers can get to and from Manette using the Warren Avenue Bridge.
A complete closure of the bridge is necessary during the inspection because the 1930 structure is too narrow for traffic, equipment and the bridge crew to be on the roadway at the same time.
A project to replace the bridge is currently in the design phase. Construction work on the new bridge is scheduled to begin in 2010. About 12,000 vehicles a day cross the Manette Bridge.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for their commute during the closures, and can call 511 or visit WSDOT’s traffic Web site for road and traffic updates.
