Bozeman kicks off re-election campaign

Kicking off his campaign for a third term in office today Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman offered a message of hope that rivaled the rays of sunshine filtering through the Kitsap Conference Center at the Bremerton Harborside.

“I think our best days are ahead of us. They are better than we’ve ever seen before,” Bozeman told the more than 200 supporters from across the city and Kitsap County, who braved the crisp morning air to rally behind Bozeman, who is facing Bremerton City Councilman Mike Shepherd in his re-election bid.

However, there are those in the community who don’t want change and want a return to the city’s ways of the past, he said.

“I see change as a way of making people’s lives better,” he said. “Bremerton is no longer a Navy town. It is an urban city.”

Being an urban city means having an economy that isn’t wholly dependent on the Navy’s presence and being a place people want to live, he said.

In the coming election, lots of things will be said and promises will be made by those seeking public office, he said, telling his supporters about a saying his aunt Margie ingrained in his mind as a child.

“She’d say, ‘The proof is in the pudding,’ and things like,” Bozeman said. “If you’re in a position to make a difference, make a difference.”
