Update: Pole dancing studio OK’d by zoning laws

Poulsbo Mayor Kathryn Quade announced Wednesday the contested pole fitness studio on Jensen Way does not violate the city’s zoning regulations. Dolphin Dance Studio, a new business in Poulsbo Place that teaches exotic and pole dancing as exercise, had some residents petitioning against its location so near a neighborhood and area nursing home.

Quade said city staff reviewed regulations and didn’t find “anything that would prohibit the proposed use” as long as the business does not sell erotic products or services or allow nudity. Staff also researched the Codes, Covenants and Restrictions of the Poulsbo Place neighborhood and found a restriction against dance halls and musical studios. Those regulations will be left to the neighborhood’s Home Owner’s Association to enforce, Quade said.

The North Kitsap Herald will continue to follow this story as it develops.
