Ring, ring, NKSD calling … again and again

POULSBO — The North Kitsap School District put its new automated phone message delivery system to the test today. And boy, did it work.
When the district Transportation Director Ron Lee was inspecting the roads at 4:30 a.m., he determined that a two-hour delay for the schools would be ample time to ensure the students’ safety.
The district’s automated phone system called parents and staff — some received three or four phone calls with the same message — to inform them of the delay.
After the two-hour delay decision was made, the temperature continued to drop and the snowfall became heavier in some parts of the district. Lee and district Superintendent Rick Jones decided it would be safer to cancel school all together for the day.
“We do apologize to people who got multiple phone calls this morning. It’s a new computer calling program and we’re working hard to make sure there are no future glitches,” Case stated in an e-mail.
