The Literacy Council of Kitsap County seeks volunteers to help adults improve reading, writing and other basic skills. There are opportunities to assist foreign-born adults in English as a Second Language (ESL) as well as tutoring basic literacy students. ESL tutor training sessions will be held Sept. 15, 19 and 20 at the council’s Bremerton office. The class will include a Monday evening orientation plus training sessions Friday evening and all day Saturday. New tutors are required to attend all three sessions.

Basic Literacy tutor training sessions will be held Sept. 22, 26 and 27. New tutors are required to attend all three. Applications must be requested no later than Sept. 10. To receive an application, contact the Literacy Council at (360) 373-1539 or e-mail at literacy@krl.org.

The Literacy Council helps Kitsap adults aged 16 and older build skills to get jobs or re-enter the work force with services including: individualized GED preparation, job-specific literacy tutoring, ESL tutoring, citizenship preparation, family literacy tutoring for parents, and tutoring in reading and other basic skills.
