New Olympic-Western Cascade Conference opponents Yelm wasted little time introducing itself to Bremerton last Friday with a 35-0 Tornadoes win.

Yelm’s Jonathan Shines was unstoppable, logging 187 yards on the ground along with a score. Edd Brown added 75 yards and three more scores (one on an 82-yard kickoff return) in the game.

Special teams came up big for Yelm, as in addition to Brown’s return, Yelm’s Alex Brinkman returned a punt 24 yards for a score.

Jacob Belden was solid under center for the Knights (1-2), completing 12 passes for 178 yards in the loss.

Bremerton traveled to Timberline last night, but results of that game were unavailable at press time.

Cross country

In Olympic League cross country action, Klahowya was second to Sequim Wednesday at NAD Park while host Bremerton finished third.

On the boys side, Sequim won 23-41-58, while on the girls side the Wolves won 17-42-61.

Sequim’s Kenny Russel won the boys meet in a time of 13:55. Bremerton’s David Fry was third in 14:15 while Eagle Derris Davis was fifth in 14:32.

Sequim’s Audrey Lichten made it a clean sweep for the Wolves with a win on the girls side in 16:43. Klahowya’s Angie Hanners was fourth with a time of 18:09.

Girls soccer

Olympic extended its Olympic League winning streak to 27 on Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout against Bremerton at Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans (5-2, 2-0) got a pair of goals from Audrey Pond on a pair of assists from Lacey Skelly to earn the victory. Oly keeper Darrien Dorr logged the clean sheets.

As for Bremerton (1-4-1, 1-1-0), the Knights kept solid pressure on Oly throughout the game, but simply couldn’t find the back of the net.

Volleyball

Olympic shut down Bremerton on the court on Tuesday, taking an easy 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-9) win from the Knights at OHS.
