Webster’s dominant performance leads Olympic to road win over NK

The Vikings hadn’t lost a league home game since 2012

Olympic running back Chace Webster was a force to be reckoned with in a road game against North Kitsap Sept. 18, rushing for over 200 yards and scoring three touchdowns, as the Trojans (2-1) beat the Vikings (1-2) 27-14 in each team’s first Olympic League game of the season.

It marked NK’s first league home loss since 2012, and it was Trojan coach Sal Quivetus’ first win on the road against the Vikings.

“I haven’t done it yet, ever,” Quivetus said. “Anytime we beat them [North Kitsap], we beat them at our place.”

Webster rattled off a 42-yard run for a touchdown on the Trojans’ third drive of the game, giving them a 7- 0 lead with over five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

NK finally found their offense at the beginning of the second quarter with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Viking starting quarterback Teague Weible to wideout Cooper Anderson, tying the game up at seven apiece.

Weible completed a deep 55-yard pass to wide receiver Ethan Blue before the end of the half. He then was able to complete an additional five-yard touchdown pass to Anderson to give the Vikings their first lead of the game at 14-7.

Olympic quarterback Toby Moore responded on the following drive with a deep completed pass of his own, but threw an interception a few plays later to end the half.

“I remember going into halftime saying we still got another half to play, we need to keep stepping on their throats,” Anderson said.

Webster was able to run it into the end zone for a second time after Moore successfully drove the ball downfield, tying the game up at 14 apiece with 10:28 remaining in the third. He added another 23-yard touchdown later in the quarter for his third of the game.

Weible threw an interception to Gavin Wells early in the fourth quarter. NK got the ball right back with a Liam Bird interception, not even two minutes later, but Wells picked it off once again three plays later, giving him his second interception on the day.

“Our safety had the flats, our corner had the deep thirds whenever we come in the backfield, and I see the guy cut in,” Wells said about his two-interception night. “So I kind of just play in the middle and put it back through right between the guys’ hands there to get it.”

Webster continued his strong day, breaking off a 20+ yard run to get them on the goal line with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Nonetheless, Moore drove the ball in on a long scramble on fourth down, giving the Trojans a two-possession lead at 27-14 and ultimately sealing the victory.
