Vikings take League championship, advance with No. 1 seed | Volleyball

The unbeaten North Kitsap Vikings remained just that through the Olympic League Tournament Nov. 1.

SEQUIM — The unbeaten North Kitsap Vikings remained just that through the Olympic League Tournament Nov. 1.

The Vikings (12-0, 16-0) defeated the Bremerton Knights 3-1 in the semifinals.

North Kitsap’s Briar Perez led the team with 10 kills, four blocks and six aces. Bri Duchemin had 11 kills and 11 digs. Mareena Clotfelter had 23 asses and was 19/19 serving. Megan Cragg had eight kills. And Molly Lemmon had 18 digs.

The Vikings shut out the Sequim Wolves 3-0 in the finals to win the championship.

Duchemin had 16 kills and 11 digs against the Wolves. Perez had eight kills and four blocks. Clotfelter had 28 assists, 17 digs and was 21/21 serving. Cragg had seven kills. Mekdes Crowley had 12 digs. Lemmon had 17 digs.

“I am very proud of the team for earning the No. 1 Olympic seed to the District Tournament,” head coach Tim French wrote to the Herald. “It could turn out to be a very big deal.”

The seeding tournament precedes the West Central District III Tournament, which begins Nov. 7.

The Vikings travel to Washington High School to play the Patriots at 5:15 p.m., Nov. 7.

The Patriots finished 6-8 in the 2A South Puget Sound League. They were 7-8 overall. The winner advances to play the winner of the Foster/Steilacoom match at 8:45 p.m. the same day. The loser plays the loser of Foster/Steilacoom at 8:45 p.m.

The loser of the North Kitsap/Washington game faces a loser-out situation for the rest of the tournament. The winner can lose once, before facing the same situation.

Other teams from the Olympic League advancing to Districts are: Sequim (No. 2), Olympic (No. 3), Bremerton (No. 4), North Mason (No. 5).
