Vikings score early, often against Spartans

The North Kitsap Vikings softball squad dominated the Bainbridge Spartans 19-1 April 25. The Vikings scored 14 runs in the first inning, going through the entire lineup twice.

Sophia Peato struggled for the Spartans on the mound. Although the Vikings scored in the double digits, she only gave up three hits. But Peato walked 10 batters, hit a batter, and the defense had two errors.

On the other hand, Serenity Fake dominated on the mound for NK. “We’ve got solid defense and pitching across the board,” coach Clay Blackwood said. “We are deep; that’s a big positive for us.”

Fake gave up one walk and one earned run in four innings pitched. Spartan Rollins Anderson stepped onto the mound in the second inning and slowed down the Vikings. “It is hard to keep their focus, and I hoped the focus would change when the other pitcher came in but we struggled,” Blackwood said. “We had trouble with [Anderson].”

In the four innings pitched, Anderson gave up five runs. However, she picked up a handful of strikeouts and putouts on her own. The lone Spartan run came when Kaitlyn Davis hit a sacrifice fly to score Brearley Jayne Curfman in the fourth inning.
