POULSBO — The Olympic League-leading Vikings cruised against the Roughriders on Jan. 27.

“Give North Kitsap credit, they came out and got on us early and often,” Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin said.

“I was not too happy about our mental focus during the first quarter. We did not communicate well, especially in the first half, which led to a bunch of easy points for North.”

The Vikings stand alone at the top of the Olympic League basketball standings and are two games from winning the league title.

The Vikings (9-1, 14-4) lead the league heading into an away game against the Sequim Wolves Feb. 3.

The Vikings, Olympic Trojans (8-2, 12-5) and Sequim Wolves (7-3, 11-6) are close to all being guaranteed a postseason berth. The Wolves are closer to finishing first in the league than missing postseason. The Vikings are guaranteed a postseason berth.

Based on current standings, if the Vikings finish first in the league, they would play Fife (6-5, 11-6) in the first round of the district playoffs. A second-place finish would mean a first-round game against Clover Park (6-5, 11-6).
