Vikings dominate league opener against Olympic

The North Kitsap girls basketball team defeated the Olympic Trojans 61-27 on Dec. 6. Although the Olympic Trojans fielded a more robust roster than last season, its young core could not handle the Vikings’ offensive firepower.

The Vikings earned a 9-0 lead when Sophia Baugh nailed two three-pointers within the game’s first few minutes. Olympic’s Mailli Bode was the first Trojan to score with a jump shot to make it 11-2.

Olympic found a spark toward the end of the first quarter when Sophia Brown earned five unanswered points to make it 15-7.

Olympic went toe-to-toe with the Vikings in the second quarter. Olympic’s Megan Krell and North Kitsap’s Evelyn Beers earned a couple of points to start the quarter. After trading some baskets, Baugh went on another scoring spree to give the Vikings a 32-17 at halftime.

Baugh continued to rally the Vikings in the second half, scoring two layups at the beginning of the third quarter. North Kitsap’s run continued until Olympic’s Angelina Godinez-Gonzalez scored a handful of points.

North Kitsap’s Avery Kline ended the third quarter with a field goal to give the Vikings a 48-23 lead.

Both sides began to play their substitutes in the fourth quarter. Therefore, North Kitsap ended the game on a 13-2 run to earn the 61-27 victory.
