North Kitsap controlled the game from start to finish in a critical game on the road against Bremerton Halloween night to end the regular season, winning 24-6 and securing second place in the Olympic League.
The Vikings and Knights were both vying for second place in the OL ahead of the matchup. Nonetheless, both have clinched playoff spots.
“We’re ready for anyone come playoff time,” NK running back Townsyn Walsh said. “I feel we have a pretty talented group.”
The Vikings established their dominance early, not allowing the Knights to score after NK kicker Andrew Knott drove in a field goal, giving them an early 3-0 lead behind dinks and dunks from quarterback Teague Weible and solid running from Walsh.
Fellow Viking running back Kyree McGinty and company were able to put together a touchdown-scoring drive, giving NK a 10-0 lead at the end of the first. Walsh later ran in a touchdown to increase the lead to 17-0 going into halftime.
“We had a good defensive plan to stop them, but just, we need to be better offensively, just more consistent,” NK coach Jeff Weible said.
Walsh added another touchdown to the Vikings’ lead three minutes into the second half after Bremerton muffed a punt.
The Knights put together their strongest drive of the game following the NK touchdown, with quarterback Ryder Sorensen and Bremerton running back Kenneth Najera accounting for 55 yards cumulatively, getting them into Viking territory for the first time all game.
Bremerton eventually put their first score in after Sorensen ran it at the goal line, cutting the deficit to 18 at 24-6 after a failed extra point attempt.
“The defense played phenomenal,” Weible said. “Offense reverted back to our old ways of shooting ourselves in the foot. We had the ball at the one-yard line twice, and we can’t put it in because of bad snaps and stupid penalties and missed assignments.”
