Vikes win 9 of 12 events against Sequim | Boys swimming

The North Kitsap Vikings won nine of the 12 swimming events against the Sequim Wolves Jan. 7.

SEQUIM — The North Kitsap Vikings won nine of the 12 swimming events against the Sequim Wolves Jan. 7.

The North Kitsap boys swim team had a first-place finish in the majority of the events. The Vikings won 124-49.

The North Kitsap 200-meter medley relay team started things off for the Vikings. The team finished first in 2 minutes 5.82 seconds.

North Kitsap’s Alex Chow then finished the 200-meter free event in 2:16.95; 2 seconds ahead of North Kitsap senior Nathan Thompson and well ahead of Sequim’s third-place finisher Charlie Prosser, who finished in 2:46.52. Chow returned in the 100-meter butterfly for another top finish. He ended the race in 1:10.45.

North Kitsap senior Duncan Williams kept things going for the Vikings. He won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:40.11.

Sequim’s Eric Prosser won the 50-meter free in 24.62 seconds. Prosser returned later to take first in the 100-meter backstroke.

The Sequim 1-meter diving team also won — North Kitsap does not have a diving team — for 10 points.

North Kitsap sophomore Matt Smith won the 100-meter free in 1:01.58.

North Kitsap junior Devin Gilchrist took first in the 500-meter free in 6:43.95; almost an entire minute ahead of Sequim’s Wendall Lorenzen.

North Kitsap 200-meter free relay won in 1:49.76.

North Kitsap senior Jakob Anderson finished the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:22.18.

It is the third win for the Vikings this season. The team lost to Port Angeles Dec. 18.

NEXT: The Vikings travel to Olympic High School to compete against the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 8.
