Anyone who keeps up with local sports knows about the Bremerton Knights and Lady Knights and is probably fairly knowledgeable about the players on the team. The players that they probably don’t know are the future Knights, the Squires of Mountain View Middle School.
The team is led by coach Jeremy Monroe, who teaches at Bremerton High School and also coaches the BHS tennis team.
Monroe has the boys playing at a very high level and after five games, the team sits at a lofty 4-1.
The group started off slow with a loss at Woodward Middle School on Bainbridge Island Nov. 15. On Nov. 19 they redeemed themselves by defeating Klahowya at home.The team followed that win with three more Nov. 20 at Poulsbo, Nov. 26 at home against McMurray Middle School, located on Vashon Island and Nov. 29 at home against Kingston.
The Squires had another game scheduled for Dec. 3 at Hawkins Middle School in Belfair, but that game was canceled due to the weather problems this week.
Coach Monroe said he is proud of his team and it is getting better everyday.
“All 16 members of the team have contributed in all five games. They are working hard and steadily improving as a team,” Monroe said.
They also understand how important it is to have people cheering for them and are appreciative of everyone who shows up to root them on.
“The team would like to thank all of the fans for their tremendous support,” he said.
Currently, there are five seventh graders on the team. They are Tyler Parker, Kaden Tomlinson, Andrew Shadle, Mike Lawrence and Theo Robinson.
The eighth graders on the team are Mike Gregory, Lewis Thomas, Nick Riders, Erik Jameson, Johnny Ratliff, Riley Danskin, Keith Haggins, Connor Wales, Kyler Jordan, Dominique Ramsey, and Doug Erickson.
The two team managers are Ben Merrill and Cameron Day.
Dec. 10 is the date of the next game for the Mountain View Squire’s and they will see Poulsbo come to Bremerton for a showdown at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 the team will travel to Klahowya for a 3:30 p.m. battle on the court. On Dec. 17 the boys will take on Poulsbo once again but this time they will do it on the road at 3:30 p.m. The Squire’s final game will take place at home on Dec. 18 against Woodward Middle School, the only team to beat them so far. This game will also take place at 3:30 p.m.
