The spring sports season has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak

The announcement yesterday from Gov. Jay Inslee that traditional, on-site education would cease for the remainder of the school year put the final nail in the coffin of the possibility of some kind of spring sports season.

The WIAA asked for and received clarification late Monday from Inslee that the cancelation included all in-person extracurricular activities, including athletics.

“The WIAA Executive Board and the WIAA Staff feel for those students around the state that have had their seasons or careers cut short,” read a statement released by the WIAA on Monday evening. “This terrible disease has not only prevented students from creating lifelong memories through competition, it has limited the valuable lessons gained through participation in education-based athletics and activities.”

The Kitsap Athletic Roundtable has canceled its all-star baseball and softball games, which were scheduled for June 4. The Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State series, which is held every year in Yakima, has also been called off.
