Sports updates for May 18, 2009.

SOCCER

North Kitsap 2, Enumclaw 0

The Vikings advanced to the state tournament with a shutout of the Enumclaw Hornets Saturday. North plays Tuesday against Seattle Prep at Interbay Stadium at Seattle Pacific University in Seattle.

First half – 1, NK, Ashe Carlson (Jon Kidder), 17th. Second half – 2, NK, Marco Lopez (PK), 55th.

Steilacoom 2, Kingston 1

The Buccaneers’ season ended Saturday with a loss to Steilacoom in the class 2A West Central District III playoffs.

First half – 1, KHS, Chad Kramer (Brian Bain, Diego Portillo), 25th. 2, Ste, Casey Woodruff, 38th. Second half – 3, Ste, Woodruff (James Atkins), 59th.

BASEBALL

Kingston advances to state

Kingston earned a spot in the 2A state baseball tournament for the second year in a row with a 6-0 victory over Sequim Friday in Bremerton. Tyler Sullivan picked up the win for the Bucs.

Kingston fell to Klahowya, 5-1, Saturday in a seeding match, setting the Bucs up as the No. 2 seed at the state tourney. Kingston’s next game will be Saturday in Bellingham against Archbishop Murphy.

Vikings earn No. 2 seed at state

North Kitsap earned the No. 2 seed to the state 3A baseball tournament after an 8-7 win over Columbia River and an 8-4 loss to Timberline Saturday in the district playoffs. The Vikings open the state tourney Saturday in Mount Vernon against O’Dea.

TRACK

A number of North Kitsap High School athletes will move on to the class 3A West Central District III tournament after an impressive showing for the Vikings Saturday at the Olympic League sub-district meet in Port Angeles.

Girls

Siara Byers won the 100-meter dash and long jump, and was part of the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay races. Melissa Kunold took first in the 200 meters and second in the 100, and ran the first leg of the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Elizabeth Staker also won the 800- and 1,600-meter races. Other North Kitsap winners included: Michelle Lloyd – javelin, Taylor Ottomano – high jump, Kateese Carter – triple jump.

Boys

Alexander Fuchs took the top spot in the 100 meters and second in the 200, and was part of the winning 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays. Tabor Reedy was first in the 1,600 meters and second in the 3,200. Other winners from North included Tyler Spear – 800 meters, Mack Kunold – discus, Glenn Runnels – pole vault, Jesse Banda – long jump.

NK lacrosse player wins all-state honors

North Kitsap sophomore Mallory Glebe was named to the first team all-state for the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Division II. Glebe finished the season with 43 goals and eight assists for North.
