BASKETBALL

Kingston boys move into top 2A spot in league

The Kingston High School boys basketball team moved into first place in the Olympic League 2A division Friday with a 62-58 win at North Mason. The Buccaneers (12-5 overall, 9-4 league) trailed by 11 points going into the fourth quarter, but tied the Bulldogs (11-6, 8-5) to send the contest into overtime and capture the win.

Zane Ravenholt led the Bucs with 16 points and 13 rebounds. George Hill added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kingston plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Olympic High.

GYMNASTICS

Kingston High sends four to district meet

The Kingston High School gymnastics team placed seventh in a field of nine Saturday at a league meet at Kentwood High in Kent. Four individual gymnasts will move on to the district finals Feb. 13 at Auburn Mountainview High in Auburn. Dana VanWyck qualified for the district meet on bars, vault, floor and beam. Tori Gerken qualified on beam and floor. Sarah Wahl qualified on beam and Megan Keller qualified on bars.

WRESTLING

Kingston places second at sub-regional meet

The Kingston High boys wrestling squad placed second in a field of five Saturday at the West Central District’s 2A sub-regional meet in Sequim. Klahowya took the top spot, with 284.5 points. Kingston had 244.5 points. Kingston’s Alex Lambert (125 pounds), Michael Johnson (130) and Travis Schriner (189) each took first place in their weight class and will move on to the regional finals Feb. 13 at Washington High in Tacoma.

Eleven other boys and two girls from Kingston High will move on to the regional finals as well. They are: Devon Jacobs (103), Brandon Dryden (112), Benny McMullen (119), Daniel Talmadge (130), Michael Lujan (135), Sam English (140), Brandon McGhan (140), Trevor King (145), Zach Gormanson (160), Freddy Rodolf (215), Jack Welker (285), Ivy Rodolf (119) and Sonja Redbird (152). The girls will compete at Emerald Ridge High in Puyallup.

North Kitsap sends nine to regional meet

The North Kitsap High boys wrestling team will send nine wrestlers to the West Central District’s 3A regional championships Feb. 13 at Columbia River High in Vancouver. Aubrey Doyle (135 pounds) will represent the girls at the regional meet at Black Hills High in Tumwater.

Jake Velarde took first for North in the 112-pound class, and the Vikings placed fifth as a team, out of eight schools at Saturday’s sub-regional meet at Timberline High in Lacey.

Also moving on to the regional meet are: Josh Tucker (103 pounds), Andrew Posten (103), Jake Sievers (119), Donny Stamaris (125), AJ Milyard (135), Michael Coulter (140), Allan Dunlap (160) and Brendon Best (215). Aubrey Doyle (135).
