North Kitsap sports updates for April 13, 2009

BASEBALL

Kingston put together a late-game comeback Friday to beat Sequim, 12-11. The Bucs started out down 9-0 after three and a half innings, but managed to eke out a win thanks to a six-run final inning and 13 walks over the course of the game by the Wolves’ pitchers. Robbie Wright picked up the win for the Bucs.

Kingston lost Thursday to Klahowya, 2-0. Tyler Sullivan took the loss, and Kurtis Pitcher captured the win.

North Kitsap beat North Mason Friday, 15-7 in Belfair. Kevin Stringer recorded the win for the Vikings. Jeremie Aske was 3-for-5 including three RBI and a double.

FASTPITCH

Kingston fell to Klahowya Thursday, 1-0. Katie Lomas picked up the loss, and Kazandra Holliday got the win. Kingston also went to Chimacum Friday and lost, 11-5. Maddie Gfeller got the loss, and Arlie Petrick took the win. The Bucs play at Sequim Monday at 4 p.m.

North Kitsap lost to North Mason Friday, 8-1. Jordan Chargulauf was given the loss, and Emily Anderson improved to 7-0 for the Bulldogs. The Vikings take on Bremerton Monday at 4 p.m. at BHS.

SOCCER

Kingston shut out Klahowya Thursday at Strawberry Field, 2-0. Spencer Miele and Jason Kramberger split time in the net. Riley Anderson scored first in the 29th minute, (Matt Hust). The second goal came in the 47th minute, on a Brian Bain penalty kick. The Bucs play Olympic Tuesday at Strawberry, and visit NK Stadium Thursday to face North.

The Vikings tied Bremerton Thursday, 2-2, despite outshooting the Knights, 20-5. Bremerton’s Nick Rideus scored first in the 7th minute (Tyler Dooghan). North’s Jon Kidder responded in the 21st (Ashe Carlson). Matt Olson (BHS) countered in the 40th (Anthony Toombs). Carlson then equalized in the 55th (Carlos Tirado). North travels to Sequim to face the Wolves Monday.

TENNIS

North topped Olympic, 5-2 Thursday in tennis. In singles: Riza Suriben (OLY) def. Darlene Dang (NK) 6-3, 6-1. Nicole Tibi (OLY) def. McKenna Elves (NK) 6-2, 6-1. Kelsey Grunigen (NK) def. Laura Gentile (OLY) 7-6, 4-6, 7-5. In doubles: Rose Bissonette/Megan O’Hara (NK) def. Tanzy Caulkins/Jennifer Balbas (OLY) 6-0, 6-0. Krista Vestman/Bryana Bohl (NK) def. Serena Miller/Amy Stone 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Kerri McGinty/Megan Stickney (NK) def. Jessica McMullen/ Kristine Garcia (OLY) 6-4, 6-3. Taylor Skansi/Ana Yee (NK) def. Lauren Groulik/Melissa Stone (OLY) 6-1, 6-0. North takes on Kingston Monday at home at 4 p.m.

TRACK

The Vikings had a big day at the track Thursday, as the girls scored 111 points to beat opponents Port Angeles (52) and Bremerton (25). The boys also took home a win, scoring 94 to PA’s 45 and Bremerton’s 39.

Kingston competed in its first league meet of the season Thursday, with both the boys and girls teams coming out on top. The boys team scored 72 points to edge out North Mason (69) and Port Townsend (46). The girls racked up 104 points and trounced PT (47) and NM (23). Dana VanWyck pole vaulted over 8’6″ to break her own KHS school record. Anika Kramberger and Andrew Hanson each broke the KHS record in their respective discus events and finished first in the meet.

LACROSSE

The North Kitsap girls beat Ballard, 8-6, Friday at Ballard. Lindsey Colson and Danica Wilson led North with three goals each. The girls take on Klahowya Tuesday at 5 p.m. at North.

The North Kitsap boys team forfeit their game Saturday against King’s Way. The boys host South Kitsap Tuesday at Strawberry Field at 5 p.m.

GOLF

Kingston topped North Mason in girls golf Thursday, 72-23. Kyla Miedema led the Bucs with 23 points, shooting a 49.

North Kitsap lost to Sequim in boys golf Thursday, 122-57.

The Kingston boys beat North Mason, 65-48 Thursday. Dalton Ekler led the Bucs with 19 points.
