“Dig Pink” match
South Kitsap’s volleyball team hosts Olympic Oct. 21 in a match that features a challenge beyond the court.
Both volleyball teams and their schools’ athletic-medicine programs have joined to raise money for “Dig Pink,” which raises awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Besides the outcome on the court, the schools are competing to see which can raise more money for the event.
T-shirts for the match, which cost $5 and are used for admission to the match, can be purchased at Manchester Family, Snap Dog Diner, Buck’s A&W, and South Kitsap and Olympic high schools.
“We’re teaching the girls some civic responsibility,” South Kitsap coach Jessica Anderson said before the season. “We think this is a really neat thing for high school kids to be involved in.”
B-ball training
High school boys basketball players are invited to attend training sessions from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25 and Nov. 1 and 8 to prepare for the upcoming season.
Each session will consist of skill development and conditioning with 30 minutes of controlled scrimmages. Players may attend as few or as many of the sessions they wish.
The sessions, instructed by Rick Walker and Craig Murray, are at Crosspoint Academy (formerly King’s West School), 4012 Chico Way NW in Bremerton. The following Olympic High School fall sports teams were recognized by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for having a cumulative gpa above 3.0, according to OHS athletic director Nate Andrews.

The eighth annual Army-Navy rugby game is Nov. 21 and Kitsap will play host. The Kitsap Rugby Football Union is actively seeking military players (Navy, Marine or Coast Guard — active duty or reservist) who would like to be on the Navy team for this event. KRFU is developing a Navy team specifically for this event and practices from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the upper softball fields on Naval Base Kitsap.
