Sports briefs: South Kitsap wrestlers record second-place finish

Six wrestlers won their weight classes for South Kitsap on Saturday to help the Wolves to a second-place finish at the Olympic Duals at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.

Conner Hartmann, who placed second at state last season, won the 189-pound weight class after he pinned Union’s Josh Reynolds in 50 seconds. Cody Barich also went 4-0 for the Wolves with three pins and a forfeit at 145.

Other champion match winners for South included Colin Bryant (112), Terrell Wilson (125), Brendon Hartshorn (140) and Adam Gascoyne (160).

Union defeated the Wolves 36-26 in the championship match.

Martinez shines as Wolves drop pair

South Kitsap junior Nars Martinez continued to display his scoring prowess last week as he averaged 17 points per game in a pair of losses.

The Wolves (1-3) lost 64-35 on Dec. 8 at Lincoln and then lost their league opener 60-52 at Olympia. Senior point guard Steven Ebner had 17 points in the latter game for South.
