Athletes host benefit buffet
The Kingston High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a pizza buffet on Feb. 1 at the Pizza Factory in Kingston, located at 1098 State Hwy 104, No. 111.
Guests can bring $7 and five non-perishable food items to donate and chow down on as much pizza as they like.
The feast will last from 2 to 8 p.m. and all food donations will go to the Kingston ShareNet food bank.
KHS wrestlers fall to Port Townsend
The Buccaneer wrestlers fell 50-24 Jan. 28 in a dual match at Port Townsend.
Winners on the Kingston side included Alex Lambert (119), by fall; Kiana Witt (112), by forfeit; and Sam English (140), by forfeit.
Vikings, Bucs lose to Port Angeles
It was a rough day Jan. 27 for North and Kingston swimmers, as both teams lost in a dual meet at Port Angeles.
Having nautical mascots didn’t help, as the Roughriders sank the Vikings 115-67, and the Buccaneers went down 130-44.
Both teams wrapped up their seasons Jna. 29 against Bremerton. Results of the match were not available at press time.
Lady Bucs go 1-1
The Kingston girls basketball team split their last two games, losing to Bainbridge on Jan. 23, but defeating Port Angeles Jan. 27.
Sophomore Sophia Baetz accounted for half the Bucs’ points in their 55-40 loss to Bainbridge.
Baetz racked up another 15 points in Tuesday’s 54-43 win over Port Angeles. But Arissan Ugles, the six foot senior, led the team with 16 points and 14 boards Tuesday. Junior Laura Wicklein tallied 13 points to round out the leader board.
The girls host Sequim at 7 p.m. tonight.
KHS wrestlers finish sixth
The Buccaneer wrestlers finished sixth Saturday at the Harper Hill Invitational in Lakewood.
Kiana Witt came in first in the 112-pound girls division, with two wins at the tourney.
Alex Lambert finished second for the boys in the 119-pound division, while Travis Schriner (189) placed third.
Other wrestlers included Walker Larson (215) who placed fourth, and fifth-place finishers Alan Weber (160) and Cody Jennings (119).
KHS gymnasts lose to Port Angeles
Kingston’s gymnasts lost to Port Angeles Jan. 24 by a score of 127.05 to 111.2.
Despite the loss, KHS’s Dana VanWyck came in first overall with a score of 30.15.
Other KHS finishers included Tori Gerken (fourth), Marina Roberts (sixth) and India McNease (ninth).
Lacrosse registration coming up
Boys in fifth through eighth grades interested in playing lacrosse are encouraged to sign up with the Kitsap Youth Lacrosse Association.
The KYLA is taking registrations through Feb. 7, and practices will begin Feb. 10 at Seabeck Elementary.
Cost is $125 for the season, plus a $5 KYLA membership fee.

High school sailors meet
The North Kitsap High School and Kingston High sailing teams will hold meetings for any interested students next week.
The NKHS group meets Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the school’s commons.
The KHS team will meet Thursday in that school’s commons from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
No prior sailing experience is required, and both teams are coed.
