Buc tennis gets oh so close again
On Tuesday the Bucs hosted North Mason to a makeup match and lost a close one, 4-3.

NK cross county has perfect league records
On Wednesday the Vikings cross county team traveled to Klahowya for a three-way duel with Port Townsend. North swept all three races on the three- mile course – part trail and part pavement. The course record of 16:10, originally set by Jake Haskins of Port Townsend back in 2000, was broken by five boys, two from PT and North’s top three – Tabor Reedy, Joel Brose, and Tyler Spear. With the victories, the girls improve to 4-0 in league, 6-0 overall, with the boys 4-0 in league, 4-2 overall.
Boys varsity results: third, Tabor Reedy, 15:31; fourth, Joel Brose, 15:40; fifth, Tyler Spear, 16:06; sixth, Lars Blazina, 16:17; and seventh, James Dexter, 16:44.
Girls Varsity results: first, Annelise Weinmann, 18:24; second, Hilary Leonard, 18:42; third, Shawna Williams, 19:04; fourth, Katie Tertocha, 19:11; and fifth, Becca Cates, 19:34.
On Thursday North travels to 7 Cedars Golf Course for the Olympic League Championship Meet.
Buccaneer soccer wins one, loses one
On Tuesday the Bucs hosted Port Angles at the North Kitsap Stadium and won 3-0.
Jamie Schultz followed in the shot from Renee Henderson with a slide into the net at the 11th minute of play then got the assist in the 33rd minute giving rookie Alexis Ekonomakis her first goal in her first Varsity game.
Later in second half captain Meghan Antoni ripped a shot into the far side net in the 61st minute to wrap up the 3-0 game.
On Thursday the Bucs hosted Port Townsend at Buccaneer Field and lost, 2-0.
The Bucs outshot PT in the first half but to no avail.
Port Townsend scored in the 29th minute from a free kick that was headed in by Claire Foden.
With eight minutes left in the game with Kingston pushing to tie it, PT got a break away and Emelina Berkshire laced one in to make it 2-0.
West Central District III, has posted the Olympic/Nisqually League district playoffs and it seems Kingston has a chance at post season with three 2A berths, head coach Craig Smith wrote in an e-mail.
“If we beat Sequim and stay ahead of them we will catch that third seed and have another game on Nov. 8, probably at Silverdale Stadium,” he wrote. “We have something to shoot for and I’ve got to coach better to help these girls continue their development”
On Tuesday the Bucs host North Mason.
North Kitsap Volleyball wins two on the road
On Tuesday the Vikings traveled to Port Townsend and won in three, 25-13, 25-19, 25-15.
Sarah Baugh, 16 kills, seven assists and four aces; Taylor Ottomano, seven kills; Jordan Denning, 13 assists; Lindsay Kocker, seven digs; and Claire Torstenbo, four kills and two blocks.
On Thursday the Vikes were off to Olympic and won in five, 27-25, 23-25, 29-27, 19-25, 15-12.
Baugh, 17 kills, 20 assists, nine digs, and five aces; Ottomano, 15 kills and two blocks; Dennig, 17 assists and eight digs; Kocker, 13 digs; Haley Fidler, 20/20 serving with two aces; Bryana Bohl, 18/18 serving, three aces and 16 digs; Katie Smeland, nine digs; and Torstenbo, five kills and four blocks.
“Our serving was a huge factor in our ability to hang in there during rough patches,” wrote head coach Tim French in an e-mail. The Vikes served 93 percent for the match. “I am extremely proud of their ability to play through problems. It is very satisfying to beat a quality, well coached team like Olympic. They have a tall, talented squad.”
The Vikings, 16-3 and 7-2 in league travel to Port Angeles on Tuesday.
The Vikings girls swim team suffers its first loss
On Thursday the Vikes traveled to Port Angeles Roughriders and lost 118-65.
Although the Vikes didn’t win as a whole they posted two new school records and 12 personal records. Freshman Bethany Aban broke her own school record in the 100 yard breaststroke, which now stands at 1:13.01. Aban got out of the pool and stepped into the third leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay, which also posted a new school record in 4:02.09. Other Swimmers on that relay were Seniors Andrea Coyle, Ingrid Reeves and Stephanie Longmate. Freshman Sydney Thompson improved her 500-yard freestyle time by 36 seconds.
200-free, first place, Longmate, 2:04.82; 200-individual medley, Reeves, 2:37.75; 100-fly, first place, Aban, 1:05.86; 500-free, first place, Longmate, 5:30.43; 100-breaststroke, first place, Aban, 1:13.01; and 400-free relay, first place, Coyle, Reeves, Aban and Longmate, 4:02.09.
On Thursday the Vikes travel to Sequim.
