Kitsap Baseball Post 68 got

oh so close to winning it all

Kitsap Baseball Post 68 placed second in the 2008 Regional Babe Ruth Tournament, held at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds July 23-26. The Post went 3-4 in pool play, and won four games overall.

In its first tournament game the post defeated Lower Columbia, 15-6. James Smith was the game’s Most Valuable Player.

In game two the Post stomped Crater Lake 13-3. Reuben Smith was MVP.

The Post lost game three to the Northwest Star Academy 6-0. The Post easily handled Latah County 10-0 in game four. Jordan Green was MVP.

In the semi-final round the Post defeated the Federal Way Buzz, 10-4.

The finals game belonged to the NW Star Academy, as it defeated the Post 4-3.

“I want to thank everyone that came out and supported the team and/or helped out at the tournament over the last week/weekend,” wrote head coach Brent Stenman in an e-mail. “While I’m obviously disappointed to lose the championship game, I’m really proud of our team. As is often the case in baseball, I wish I had done one or two things differently over the course of the game, but I feel like the kids gave a 100 percent effort and left it all out on the field, and we lost to a great team.”

The North Kitsap Pee Wee Association expands to Kingston

The North Kitsap Pee Wee Association (NKPWA) will expand into Kingston to create a local Kingston youth football program. The expansion will provide opportunities for youth who’ve not been able to play due to location and will be Kingston’s first community youth sports program.

“Now that Kingston has the facilities for practices and games, it opened up a much-needed opportunity to expand the current North Kitsap Pee Wee Football program into Kingston,” said NKPW coach Jeff Rouser in a prepared statement. “This is just another step in creating more of a Kingston community as many of these kids will go on to play for Kingston High School.”

Games will be held at the KHS football field on Saturdays starting after Labor Day. The Poulsbo teams will hold games at Hamilton Field in Poulsbo on Saturdays.

The expansion requires that the NKPWA raise additional funds for equipment. To learn more about NKPWA or to become a sponsor contact Julee Marcelino at (360) 598-3415 or visit www.nkpeewees.org.
