KHS BASEBALL
On Tuesday evening the Bucs hosted the Sequim Wolves and pulled out a narrow 8-7 victory.
Kingston posted its eight runs off nine hits and had one error for the day.
Chris Jones and Tyler Sullivan pitched and Curtis Wildung caught. Jones had three hits, including a triple and Sullivan had two hits, which also included a triple.
The Bucs got off to an early 3-0 lead, but saw it disappear in the third inning, as Kingston gave up five runs. Sequim added an additional two runs in the fifth to bump its lead to four runs.
But the Bucs answered with five runs of their own in the fifth, regaining the lead while Sullivan shut the Wolves down over the final two innings to secure the win.
On Thursday the Bucs played its final regular season home game against Port Angeles and suffered an 11-3 loss.
Reuben Smith, Robert Jordan, Austin Overton and Kyle Murray pitched while Wildung and Joe Boldt shared the catchers duty.
Smith, Paul Bagala, Danile Maleski and Justin Tapp each had one hit.
The Bucs play Nisqually League No. 3 team Steilacoom on Tuesday at Legion Field in Bremerton. The winner of that game plays Nisqually’s No. 1 team, Fife on Friday.
NK BASEBALL
On Wednesday the Vikings traveled to Foss and played in a loser-out game. The Vikes season is over as it lost to Foss 5-4.
NK FASTPITCH
The Vikings lost its last home game of the season and its senior night game on Wednesday to Stadium, 14-0.
The Vikes had only one hit which belonged to Jordan Chargualaf.
It plays either Wednesday or Thursday in the Narrows League tournament. The opposing team is not yet known.
KHS FASTPITCH
On Tuesday the Bucs traveled to Sequim and lost 11-2.
Kendal Peiguss pitched four innings, Lauren Peiguss pitched three, and Hannah Knight caught.
On Thursday the Bucs played their final home game of the season, which was also senior night for Kendal Peiguss, Hannah McCluskey, Aubin Duncan, Chelsie Brann, and Blythe Peterson.
The Bucs lost 13-0.
On Tuesday the Bucs travel to Shelton and to Port Townsend on Thursday.
NK TENNIS
On Tuesday the Vikings traveled to Olympia’s courts and got shutout 5-0.
No. 1 singles, Gip Iskandar defeated NK Bryana Bohl, 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 singles Cayla Staley defeated NK Kate Christianson 6-0, 6-0; No. 1 doubles, Gretchen Helpenstell, Annie Sing defeated NK Britt Seaberg, Darlene Dang 6-4, 6-3; No. 2 doubles Sara Sui, Bailey Kilmer defeated NK Ida Cepulic, Steph Habner, 6-0, 6-1; and No. 3 doubles Allie Mack, Brigit Miller defeated Rose Bissonnette, Meghan O’hara, 6-0,6-1.
This was the Vikings last regular season match. On Monday a seeding meeting will be held, at which time placement of the league’s tennis players for the Narrows League preliminary tournament will be determined. NK is allowed six entries for the preliminary tournament, which is scheduled for May 5 at South Kitsap. The preliminary tournament is a loser-out competition. The Narrows League tournament is May 9-10 at the University of Puget Sound South Kitsap.
NK SOCCER
On Wednesday the Vikings traveled to the fields at Stadium and lost 2-1.
“We lost a tough one tonight,” head coach Chris May wrote in an e-mail. “The team played well, but came up short.”
Today the Vikings play Mount Tahoma at 9:30.
NK AND KHS BOY’S GOLF
On Monday the boys played nine holes against Lincoln at White Horse Golf Course, which is a par 36.
North beat Lincoln 52-14.
Joey Duwe and Mitch Woodside tied for medalist honors with scores of 42 good for 12 points each; TJ French 45 for 9; Nick Bartow 44 for 10; and Colby Cather 45 for 9.
On Tuesday the combined team played 18 holes against Foss at Meadow Park Golf Course, which is a par 71.
North beat Foss 115-53.
Duwe was medalist with a score of 80 good for 27 points; Woodside 81 for 27 points with an eagle 3 on the par 5 17th hole allowing him to tie for high point total. Evan Tidball 83 for 24 points; Nick Bartow 88 for 19; and Colby Cather 89 for 18 and Alex Kim had a rare hole-in-one on the par three number 4 from 158 yards, giving him 10 of his 26 points for the match.
On Thursday the team played 18 holes against Gig Harbor at White Horse, which is a par 72.
North lost to Gig Harbor 109-96.
Duwe and Woodside tied with scores of 83 good for 25 points; French 90 for 18; Bartow 97 for 11 and Colby Cather 91 for 17.
North’s record is 4-6.
NK AND KHS GIRL’s GOLF SEASON WRAP UP
The North Kitsap / Kingston girls regular golf season came to an end last night with a loss to a very talented Gig Harbor Tides team. Hayleigh Wuensch led the way with 17 Stableford points, followed by Megan Mitchell’s 16, then Elle Sander with 14, Kyla Miedema with 12, Helen Wytko with 5 and Erika Bratlien with 4. It was only the third loss of the season, opposite of the nine wins it earned.
On Wedensday the girl’s golf team from Olympic game to White Horse and were no match for the home team. Mitchell led with 17 Stableford points, followed by Wuensch with 16, Sander and Miedema with 14, Wytko with 4 and Emily Kelleigh with 3.
Tuesday the ladies played against Foss High School down at Meadowpark in Tacoma. “This was one of our better scoring matches of the year,” wrote head coach Jay DeVries in an e-mail
Sander had a personal best 23 Stableford points, followed by Lindsay Sheridan’s 21, then Mitchell with 20, Wuensch with 19, Miedema with 18 and Kelleigh with 15.
Monday, the Lincoln girls golf team traveled to White Horse and were dispatched by the home team. Mitchell and Sander both shot 53’s, which equated to 19 Stableford points. Wuensch shot a 54, good for 18 Stableford points. Miedema had 14 Stableford points, Brittany McKenzie had 8 and Katelyn Struxness had 5.
April 18th the ladies traveled to Tumwater Valley golf course and lost to Olympia 124 to 105. Lindsay Sheridan shot a career best 49 which netted her 23 Stableford points. Mitchell shot a 50 for 22 Stableford points, Miedema and Bratlien both shot 51’s for 21 points, Wuensch shot a 54 for 18 points and Sander earned 17 points.
“It was windy, and cold and rainy and the girls battled through it for their best scoring output of the season,” wrote DeVries. “All said, it was a very successful golf season. Our freshmen, Katelyn Struxness and McKenzie Clark made great strides in improving their golf games. Our sophomores, Elle Sander, Kyla Miedema and Erika Bratlien were great point scorers throughout the season, and the rest of the girls, all juniors, Hayleigh Wuensch, Megan Mitchell, Lindsay Sheridan, Helen Wytko, Emily Kelleigh, and Brittany McKenzie were great team leaders and steadfast in their pursuit of improving their individual golf games.”
The combined team finished its season with a 9-3 record and is taking six girls to districts, who DeVries said are all capable of qualifying for the second day of the tournament and a few have a chance of qualifying for the state tournament in Bellingham. The Narrows League tournament begins on Thursday.
