North soccer loses one, wins one

On Tuesday North traveled to North Mason and met it match, losing 3-1.

On Thursday the Vikings hosted Klahowya and won, 1-0.

Delanee Nilles scored on corner kick with three and a half minutes remaining, assist by Siara Byers. Keeper Christine Parker earned the shutout.

The Vikings junior varsity squad shutout Klahowya, 4-0, and also shutout North Mason at North Mason Oct. 7, 7-0.

The JV team’s only given up three goals in all league games thus far.

On Tuesday the Vikings traveled to Port Townsend, results of the game weren’t available at press time. On Thursday the Vikes host Olympic at the North Kitsap Stadium, game starts at 6:45 p.m.

Buccaneer soccer didn’t have its best game

On Thursday the Bucs traveled to Bremerton and lost, 2-0.

Bremerton scored first off a corner kick in the 28th minute, as the ball bounced off the stomach of a Buccaneer. Eight minutes into the second half the Buccaneer’s keeper ran wide of the goal to stop a ball deflected by a defender from moving out for another corner kick and slid and blocked it out to a Bremerton player who kicked it into an open net.

“We played well for 20 minutes then Brem started to dominate, controlling the midfield,” wrote head coach Craig Smith in an e-mail. “Our defense played well again but with little offense the ball just kept coming back at us. Not our best day.”

On Tuesday the Bucs hosted Port Angeles, results of the game weren’t available at press time. On Thursday the Bucs host Port Townsend at Buccaneer Field, game starts at 3:30 p.m.

Vikings football tallies another W

On Saturday the Vikes hosted Capital at the North Kitsap Stadium and defeated the Cougars, 24-6.

The Vikings added one touchdown in the second, a touchdown and a field goal in the third and a touchdown in the fourth. Capital’s sole scoring effort came in the fourth quarter.

Second: NK, Brad Deshano, 54-yard run, Zach Sampson kick. Third: NK, Sampson 43-yard field goal; NK, Jacob Glushko, 11-yard interception return, Sampson kick. Fourth: Capital 16-yard run; NK Taylor Chisholm 1-yard run, Sampson kick.

North had nine first downs, 132 rushing and 57 passing yards.

Team statistics: Deshano 23 carries for 119 yards and one reception for 16 yards, Chisholm 12 carries for 14 yards and one reception for seven yards, Brand Huggins three receptions for 27 yards, and Luis Serrato three receptions for seven yards.

Friday is the Vikings homecoming game against Bremerton at the North Kitsap Stadium, game starts at 7 p.m.

The Vikes are currently in second place in Olympic League play behind Timberline. If they finish first or second they’ll host a playoff game on Nov. 7.

Kingston cross country runs into some stiff competition

On Saturday the Bucs traveled to the Fort Worden Invite at Port Townsend. The Bucs placed well, but a few top finishing runners were knocked out of their usual first place finishes.

Girl’s varsity results: first place, Shannon Moskowitz of Central Kitsap, 17 minutes, 15 seconds; Kingston top three, second place Ruby Roberts, 17:22; third place, Marina Roberts, 17:49 and fifth place, Rose Bishop, 18:24.

Boy’s varsity results: Shane Moskowitz of Central Kitsap, 14:23; Kingston top three, ninth, Justin Doud, 15:42; 14th, Nick Schippers, 16:01; and 20th Austin Cheery, 16:28.

Today the Bucs host Bremerton and Olympic, races start near the track at Kingston High around 4 p.m.

North Kitsap Soccer Club team is the top in its division

On Sunday NCSC’s GU15 North Kitsap Chaos defeated Crossfire Select, 1-0.

Goal was scored by Rachel Fisk. Goalie duties were shared by Sara Nash and Marilyn Prosser.

Chaos’s record to this point is, 4-0-1, which places the team in first place in the Gold Platinum Bracket of Division III (WSYSL).

Chaos’s next game is Oct. 19, at 12:30 p.m. at the Kingston High School.
