Bend puts end to Jackets’ season, but Kitsap does upend Spokane in season finale.

From KITSAP NEWS Reports

The Kitsap BlueJackets had control of their playoff destiny, with the second-place Bend Elks coming to town for a three-game set with the team’s tied for the second and last playoff spot in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League’s West Division.

But after Bend swept Kitsap with 3-2, 8-4 and 6-5 wins last week, the Elks (23-19) locked up the berth no matter what the Jackets (19-23) did against East Division No. 3 Spokane (20-21), which traveled to Kitsap last weekend.

And while the RiverHawks also stuck it to the Jackets with 6-2 and 7-6 wins last Friday and Saturday, Kitsap still ended the season on a positive, topping Spokane 3-2 in 10 innings in the season finale Sunday.

Knotted 2-2 heading into the bottom of the tenth, Jackets left fielder Brian Heere hit a one-out double to get things started. Kyle Baskett drew a walk, bringing up fan favorite Doug Buser. Buser made sure what might be his final game with Kitsap was memorable, driving in Heere with an RBI single for the winning run. Buser finished 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in the game.

See next Saturday’s Herald for a complete season recap.
