Sweep caps big week

Sweep caps big week

for SK volleyball team

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Osterdahl had seven kills as South Kitsap earned a 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 nonleague volleyball win Wednesday at Bremerton.

South (2-2) also beat Eastlake, which plays in KingCo 4A, 5-20, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12.

“That was a humongous match for us,” South coach Jessica Anderson said. “Those are the kinds of wins you learn from.”

Anderson said her team only had eight players for the match against Eastlake because of injuries, but players moved around to help compensate for the squad’s depth issues. Osterdahl had 10 kills and Karinne Nelson added six more.

Cortney Echternach also finished with 16 assists and five digs and teammate Angela Romonsky had five digs.

“The outlook after the first game was pretty dull,” Anderson said. “We figured out how to fight back after that.”

She said that was important after the Wolves lost their opener in three games against North Kitsap and then suffered a five-game setback at Olympic. Anderson said the team also struggled in last week’s Yakima Sundome Tournament.

“(Eastlake) was huge as far as our confidence level goes,” she said. “They said, ‘Hey, if we play well against people like this, we can do a great job.’”

Brown, Fairweather

shine in soccer win

South Kitsap girls soccer coach Michael Krug earned his first career victory Tuesday as the Wolves claimed a 6-0 nonleague win Tuesday at Bremerton. Forwards Courtney Brown and Tori Fairweather both scored two goals, while Christina Boddie and Sammy Davis had one each.

The Wolves (1-1) lost 1-0 in their Sept. 8 nonleague opener against Olympic.
