South Kitsap swimmers compete in state meet

The South Kitsap swim and dive team competed at the state tournament at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way Feb. 19-20. Several individuals, relays and a diver represented the Wolves and contributed to the 21st place finish as a team.

The South Kitsap High boys swim and dive team sent several swimmers to compete in the state tournament at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Dylan Macabitas earned his second district title in the 100 backstroke while also setting a new school record for the event. He also qualified in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Jason Gleason qualified for diving and the 200 medley relay (composed of Dylan Macabitas, Giacomo Bressanello, Simon Martin and Matthew Martin) also qualified.

At state, the 200 medley relay finished in 18th place. Macabitas took fourth place in the 100 backstroke and finished in 12th place for the 200 freestyle. He also beat his school record yet again in the 100 backstroke, lowering his time to 52.25.

Gleason finished in seventh place in the diving competition.

Ultimately, South Kitsap came in 21st out of a 42-team field with 348 athletes competing.
