The Wolves’ defense clicked in a 19-5 home win against the Lakes Lancers Oct. 13, as South Kitsap’s boys water polo team improved to 4-7 on the season.
SK also tallied its second-highest scoring game of the season.
“We really tried tracking the ball and getting out of the water [going in to the game],” SK goalkeeper Colby Kusche said. “We had lots of defense going on.”
SK got out to a fast start with Tate Herbold getting a quick score for the Wolves within the first two minutes of the game.
Chris Plunkett followed that up with two scores of his own later on in the first period, and Aiden Jones added an additional score, giving SK a 5-0 lead entering the second period.
Ben Nipert kicked off the scoring for SK at the beginning of the second period, generating another goal within the first two minutes, facilitating a fast-paced scoring approach. Micah Hardin also got himself on the board with an up-close-and-personal goal.
SK led 8-0 entering halftime.
Lakes got its first score of the game at the beginning of the third period off a penalty shot, before adding another goal.
Lakes added another score late in the third, but Brandon Olson of SK scored one of his own, increasing the lead to 12-2 with 2:30 remaining in the period.
SK managed to tally two additional goals before the four-minute mark in the fourth period and kept Lakes from generating any offensive momentum throughout the final period.
“It kind of improves everyone’s morality,” Tegan Crecelius of SK said. “So we’ll start to kind of figure out where to go [from here].”
